The Gloucester Theatre Company presents…
The TRIAL OF THE SOUL
Rudolf Steiner’s second Mystery drama in a new version by Alexander Gifford with original music by Penelope Wildgoose.
Directed by Adrian Locher and Alexander Gifford and performed by members of the Stroud Mystery Drama Group
Using a new translation by Alexander Gifford and original music by Penelope Wildgoose, with a cast of 25, this production promises to give fresh insights into this unique drama bout karma and reincarnation. Starting with the spiritual crises of a group of present-day friends, we travel back with them in time to discover the origins of their struggles in their previous lives around a Knights Templar castle in medieval times. And then we see how they attempt to integrate this insight into their modern lives and how certain spiritual beings seek to help or hinder them in this.
Running time: 4 hours including two intervals
Dates: Saturday 10th November, 2pm
Sunday 11th November, 2pm
Price: £20, £15 conc. (£5 students at the door)
From a review by Lorraine Campbell
“The play proved both grandly dramatic
and profoundly moving – like watching a Greek tragedy.”
“Alexander Gifford’s translation, in
iambic pentameter, possessed an almost Shakespearean beauty and grandeur. The
acting was also excellent. This was billed as a community production – however
I found the performances to be of a professional standard.”
“It touches the heart simply through the
force of its human, dramatic content. I found its vision of “spiritual
realities”, if not persuasive, then at least interesting and suggestive.”
Tickets will also be sold at the door, but spaces are limited so please book in advance if possible.
