Cameo Talk and Demonstration

from 6:30 pm until 9:00 am

Costs £4.00 per person (Includes refreshments)

We are welcoming Graham Fisher MBE; local broadcaster, glass ambassador and enthusiast next month to give glass lovers an insight into the story of Cameo Glass Engraving.

The evening is something of a tribute to the incredible skill and expertise that was a common feature within the Stourbridge Glass Industry throughout the 19th Century – skills which still survive to this day!

The talk, which takes place on Wednesday 6th July 2011 at 6.30pm, will include the development of cameo from historic times, the role of our industry in the recreation of the famous Portland Vase, examples of contemporary and ‘traditional’ cameo and a glance at some of its local exponents.

There will also be demonstrations by Cameo Artist, Terri L. Colledge; one of the country’s best Cameo Engravers who’s resident at Ruskin Glass Centre. She will demonstrate exactly how the layers of glass are carved away to help create intricate pieces of artwork. There will also be demonstrations of other glass skill including glassblowing and sandblasting.

The evening will also include the launch of a new project; ‘The Portland Vase of a New Generation’, which aims to prove that Stourbridge’s glass trade is still alive! This project will create a replica of one of the most famous pieces of glass in history using the renowned skills of local glass artist Terri L. Colledge.

Visitors to The Ruskin Glass Centre will also be able to see Ruskin based Richard Golding blowing the blank in the next few weeks. After that Terri will be working her magic and engraving the piece, which again visitors can come and see firsthand. Terri aims to complete the piece at the same time of the International Festival of Glass in August 2012.

The evening costs just £4.00 per person and includes refreshments. You can book in advance by calling 01384 399 419 or emailing leigh.white@ghc.rmet.org.uk
